The Parlor Song
02:40
|
|||
Imagine my surprise to find you in my parlor, little fly
Uncoerced, your choice, knowing full well my price
Imagine my joy to be here in your employ
Nip the bait from my hook
Sign your name in my book
And down we'll go
And down you'll go
Down you'll go
With your immortal soul
What splendor, what providence, these little flies I collect.
If you'd like a taste, bring yourself to my place.
And down you'll go
Down you'll go.

Simon and The Whale
02:50
|
|||
Do you hold a prize in your guessing eyes?
Are you curious to see if you're wrong or right?
Are you curious to see? And if incorrect what then?
Simon and The Whale.
Found yourself in a Wonderland
Where all you knew known is unknown again.
And the creatures of the deep, creatures under the sea
Are making friends with Simon, fishy friends with Simon.
Simon and The Whale.

"Smile," she said. "Let the bullets do the work."
"Think of a happy place where your friends are all around."
"Think of a happy time when the sun was dripping down."
"Smile," she said. "Let the bullets do the work."
"Relax your face and head. Let the bullets do the work."
"Just so you know this thing's a sell out. Everyone's here, gathered around."
Plastic ponchos. Plastic on the walls and floor.
"Smile," she said. "Let the bullets do the work."
"And I couldn't be more proud."

City of Roses

Whisper to me your secret names.
Whisper to me your occupations.
Tell me when you're coming back again
And I'll try to be there, I'll be there if I can.
I remember the Burnside Bridge -- Old Town ladies.
Denim pockets, leather patches, all faded.
But I was just a kid back then.
Backseat windows, windshields wiping.
Climbing up the trees off of SE Bybee.
Living with a ghost, not doing laundry.
Looking down at a city that was suddenly in our hands.
But we were all just kids back then.
Coffee with the Clowns at the Star E. Rose.
A sign of affection in your skull and crossed bones.
A budget box on Clinton Street.
City of Roses late 20th Century.
City of Roses 20th Century
So whisper to me your secret names.
Whisper to me your incantations.
I'm distracted this same way.
21st Century City of Roses.
Whisper to me your secret names.
Whisper to me your occupations.
Tell me when you're coming back again
And I'll try to be there, I'll be there if I can.

Take a tremendous amount of drugs.
How do you deal with the daily slob?
Take a tremendous amount of drugs.
How do you deal with the emptiness?

Take a tremendous amount of drugs.
What do you when you're vary afraid?
Take a tremendous amount of drugs.
What did you do with the gifts I gave?
Take a tremendous amount of drugs.
What do you with a brand new love?
Take a tremendous amount of drugs.
What do you deal broken heart?

All Things Last Forever
04:18
|
|||
In the belly of the beast that washed up from the sea
They'll find those photos of you and me
How we smiled as we waved the paper dry
And loosed it in the wind, flitted across the sand
Nothing goes away
Everything will stay
All things last forever
In this life
Something moves just out of sight, maybe a shadow
Not today, no not tomorrow, maybe tomorrow.
Unopened letters underneath the mirror
Telephone messages, packages, more well wishers.
Everything's the same
Nothing's going to change
No one goes away
All things last forever
No one dies
Everything's OK
Nothing's going to change
Nothing goes away
Everyone will stay
Everything is safe
And safety lasts forever
All things last forever
Even life

The Whale and Simon
02:38
|
|||
Sometimes, sometimes, you know,
I feel like a burden on this world
So I take myself to the beach.
Wandering in to the crashing waves
an excited young man comes splashing up to me.
Wild joy in his eye, I though that he might cry.
He said, "I'd like to call you The Whale."
I said, "That's fine."
He said, "My name's Simon."
My new friend Simon.
He said he'd never met a cetacean before.
I said, "That's very interesting. I myself am a Capricorn. Or is it Sagittarius? I can never remember -- whichever one's in December."
He said he'd been so confused for such a long long time.
Felt like he was living a useless life.
Then he looked me right in the eye and I thought he might cry.
My friend Simon.
Oh we swam and we swam as the storm clouds filled the sky.
We laughed and we laughed until we almost cried. The sea seemed to boil all around us.
He said, "I'm so happy to have met you."
I said, "Me too. Me too.
My friend Simon.

Everything is Wonderful

Everything feels so good right now.
I want to slow time down.
Soak up every moment.
Everything is wonderful right now.

Empty Place
02:59
|
|||
Sometimes this place feels like a dream.
Poetry of an empty room
Where you wait for me
I hope and sing beneath my breath saying:
Wait for me here
I'll be back again I promise
Wait for me here
Or somewhere I can find you. I'll be back again.
Something flickers up the street
but it's nothing, maybe an empty place hunting a memory
Wait for me here
Or somewhere I can find you. I'll be back again.
Wait for me here
Or somewhere I can find you.

Life is a Lie
02:33
|
|||
Time is a lie
and the truth is a lie
Crime is a lie
and the noose is a lie
Topical lies
Tropical lies
Material lies
Mysterious lies
The Earth is a lie
The sky is a lie
The moon is a lie
And your mom is a lie
Daughters are lies
Son are lies
The stars are a lie
Celestial lies
The brain is a lie
and the heart is a lie
Fame is a lie
a carnival of lies
Capital lies
Lowercase lies
Death is a lie
Yes, even death is a lie
Nations are lies
Foundations of lies
Equatorial lies
to the polar lies
Naturalize your fatherly lies
Everyone lies
Even animals lie
Your dread is a lie
and your friend is a lie
Trends are all lies
comical lies
Hope is a lie
and love is a lie
but hope is alive
as long as love is alive.
The heat is a lie
and your greed is a lie
Your teeth are all lies
little bleeding gums lies
Magical lies
Cannibal lies
Factual lies
Fantastical lies
Caramel lies
Plasticine lies
Mannequin lies
Panicking lies
Latitudinal lies
Longitudinal lies
Cosmetic lies
Every day lies
A chorus of lies
The story of our lives
Creates the day
and completes the night.
Hope is a lie
and love is a lie
but hope is alive
as long as love is alive.
A chorus of lies
The story of our lives
Creates the day
and completes the night.
Hope is a lie
and love is a lie
but hope is alive
as long as love is alive.
